CYBERANDCHILL / SIX-FIGURE IAM CAREER PLAYBOOK

Already in IT and Still Under $100K?

IAM might be the career move you've been overlooking.

Maybe you've spent years in support, networking, or systems administration. You've learned plenty. But you're still trying to figure out what gets you into a better-paying role.

If you've managed Active Directory, created users, configured MFA, or fixed login issues, you've already done some identity work. Companies hire people specifically for IAM.

I put together this $9 playbook to help you choose a role, figure out what to learn, and build something you can show employers.

Why I Wrote This

I started out delivering pizzas.

To get my foot in the door in IT, I worked for free installing network switches.

That led to network support, security software, and eventually specializing in identity.

Along the way, I built a six-figure remote IT career.

One of the biggest things I've learned is that some technical skills are worth a lot more on the job market than others.

You don't have to learn everything in IT. But you should have a good reason for what you're studying.

That's why I put this playbook together. It's the guidance I'd give someone who already works in IT and wants to make their next career move into IAM.

You Might Already Have IAM Experience

Created users or groups in Active Directory?

Configured MFA, managed access, or onboarded employees?

Troubleshot why somebody couldn't sign in?

That's identity work, even if IAM has never appeared in your job title.

Start with a real IAM job posting. See what you already know, then focus on what you'd need to learn or demonstrate.

What's Inside the Playbook

It's what I'd point you toward if you already have some IT experience and want a practical way to move into IAM.

Which IAM jobs to target

Understand the main IAM specialties, how your background fits, and which role makes sense to pursue first.

What you actually need to learn

Compare your experience with job requirements so you're not spending months studying the wrong things.

Three IAM labs to build

Work on directory access, single sign-on, and identity lifecycle scenarios. Document the results.

Which certifications are worth it

Look at certifications based on the job you want instead of collecting badges without a plan.

How to position your experience

Use your existing IT background and lab projects to build a stronger resume, LinkedIn profile, and interview story.

A 90-day plan

A practical schedule for picking a target, building relevant skills, and getting your applications moving.

Three labs. A clear target. A plan you can actually follow.

Who I Wrote This For

You've already got some IT experience.

You want a better-paying role but aren't sure which specialty to pursue.

You're considering cybersecurity, cloud, or IAM, and you don't want to waste time on the wrong certs.

You'd like to build practical labs that give you something useful to talk about in interviews.

You want to know where to start without signing up for another expensive course.

This book is mainly for IT professionals ready to make their next move. IAM is one career path worth evaluating.

Here's Where I'd Start

Find one IAM job you would actually want.

Write down the requirements you've already worked with.

Pick one missing skill that a practical lab could demonstrate.

That's a better starting point than another six months of random studying.
