I’m not sure why you’d apply to 1,000 jobs if you can get 1 call out of 5 resumes sent in IT. Here's the math: 1,000 applications all using a generic resume mixing it with an AI to rewrite based on the job description. VS. 30 applications applied to 1 at a time, while positioning yourself as the ideal candidate for that 1 job. The latter is a career move that out of touch TikTok gurus won't understand. I'm in the same game as you. This is what has worked for me. Caring about applying to 1 job matters. Everything I do for my career is deliberate. On purpose. For a specific end goal. Your job search should be no different. The fastest path to higher pay is to expertly position your experience for 1 highly specific role. Not 10 roles. Not 5. 1. Because the riches are in the niches. So why 30? Not every job posting is real. Tech companies post listings they have no intention of filling for months. I’ve written about this on X. Mass applying doesn’t protect you from that. But a focused list does. And if you do this right, you'll barely manage the interviews you get (you have to give each interview your all). 30 focused applications with resumes written from your own experience will produce more callbacks than 1,000 generic ones. That’s not an opinion. I've seen this for myself and people I’ve worked with directly. Here’s how I think about it: If you treat your resume like a form you fill out and submit, you never understood the skillset required for 6-figures. Instead if you treat your resume like a real person will read it, it will be read by that person. When you apply to 30 the right way, you're not applying 30 times. You're getting sharper 30 times. By the time you're halfway through, you'll have more interviews than you know what to do with. The problem is the advice you get from Tik Tok is incomplete. They just tell you to apply 1000 times.
